From the book 'Shine
On - Visions of Life' |
 |
This excerpt from 'Shine-On' is also the lyrics for
just one of the songs on a New CD coming out very soon!

All introductions to the lyrics/poetry of Betty Shine
in 'Shine On', are written by her daughter, Janet Shine:

Ambition
Ambition is a word we all use in our vocabulary -
but do we fully understand the meaning? A desire to advance ourselves,
to achieve our ultimate goal - but along with ambition we can build a
barrier around ourselves, not being able to see when perhaps we are
treading on someone else's toes for our own advancement. Opportunities
are there for us all, but not at the price of losing self respect. By
all means have ambition, but know the boundaries and stick to them.
You will be thankful in the end.
'Ambition' - Lyrics By Betty Shine
There's a river running through my mind
That pays no heed to tides or time
And when it meets an estuary
It flows into the sea.
I never know from day to day
Where it's taking me.
I was ripe, I'd arrived,
I never cared when others cried.
Ambition was a god to me,
I designed my destiny.
How wrong can one man be?
I've lived my life on borrowed time,
I couldn't wait to stand in line,
Enjoy the well-earned limelight -
A kind of shallow life.
Now I can clearly see
It's pay back time for me.
I was ripe, I'd arrived,
I never cared when others cried.
Ambition was a god to me,
I designed my destiny.
How wrong can one man be?
When I couldn't stop the course
I knew I had to find the source,
And it led back to me.
Only I could stop the flow,
So now I've finally let go
To stem the tides of time.
I was ripe, I'd arrived,
I never cared when others cried.
Ambition was a god to me,
I designed my destiny.
How wrong can one man be
When I designed my destiny?
